AM130328 PTO Clutch Guide | AM118970, AM123285 & Ogura JD24

Chrome robot inspecting an AM130328 PTO clutch on a workshop bench for the AM118970, AM123285 and Ogura MA-GT-JD24 identification guide

Looking for an AM130328 PTO clutch replacement? Start with the number on your old clutch or the parts diagram for your tractor. AM118970, AM123285 and Ogura MA-GT-JD24 are documented references in the same replacement family, but a model name or similar-looking pulley alone does not confirm the correct part.

This guide helps you identify that family, check John Deere, Sabre and Scotts model references, and compare the details that matter before ordering.

Which John Deere, Sabre and Scotts Models Use AM130328?

John Deere’s official AM130328 page lists the following among its general equipment applications:

  • John Deere lawn and garden tractors: 240, 245, 260, 265, 285, 320, G100, GT242, GT262 and GT275
  • Sabre model references: 1842GV, 1842HV, 1848GV, 1848HV, 1948GV, 1948HV, 2148HV, 2554HV and 2554ST
  • Scotts model references: S2048, S2348 and S2554

Use this list to start your lookup. Deere describes its model list as general fit. Confirm the clutch in the parts catalog for your full model and serial number, particularly if the engine or clutch has previously been replaced.

How to Check the Parts Diagram

  1. Record the tractor’s full model and serial number from its identification tag.
  2. Open the John Deere Parts Catalog and select the matching equipment.
  3. Find the PTO clutch or mower-drive illustration and read the clutch assembly number, including any serial-number notes.
  4. Compare that number with the installed clutch label and your replacement’s specifications.

If the diagram and installed clutch disagree, investigate the difference before ordering. An engine swap can change the shaft and drive arrangement.

Five Things to Match Before Buying

  1. Complete part number: Look for AM130328, AM118970, AM123285 or MA-GT-JD24 in the correct catalog or on the original clutch. Keep every suffix visible.
  2. Crankshaft bore: Our replacement uses a 1-inch bore. A 1-1/8-inch shaft application needs a different clutch.
  3. Pulley and belt: Our listing specifies a 5-5/16-inch pulley for 1/2-inch or 5/8-inch belts. Compare pulley position and belt alignment as well as diameter.
  4. Electrical connection: Compare connector shape, terminal arrangement and wire routing with the actual product photos. Do not force mismatched plugs together.
  5. Mounting and rotation: Check the keyway, spacers and anti-rotation arrangement. Our listing specifies CCW rotation viewed from the pulley side.

Compare AM130328 replacement specifications and product photos while checking your original unit.

Blades Won’t Engage: Is the Clutch Actually Bad?

A non-engaging PTO does not automatically mean the clutch needs replacement. Ogura’s troubleshooting guidance identifies connector, supply-voltage, charging-system, wire, fuse and switch faults as possible causes.

  • No engagement: Check the connector, fuse, wiring and the mower’s required safety-switch conditions. Have supply voltage and ground checked under operating conditions.
  • Clicks but does not drive: Inspect the belt and drive connection, then test the clutch. A click alone does not prove it can carry the deck load.
  • Works cold, stops hot: Compare electrical readings when the fault is present. Heat-related symptoms can involve the clutch or the supply circuit.
  • Scraping, wobble or visible damage: Stop using the mower and inspect the mounting and belt drive before fitting another clutch.

For the diagnostic steps, use our PTO clutch won’t engage guide and wiring, fuse and switch testing guide. Use the correct service specifications for the clutch being tested.

Installation Checks That Protect the Replacement

Before removal, switch off the engine, remove the key and follow the mower’s service procedure for preventing accidental starting. Photograph the existing spacers, wiring and anti-rotation position.

The replacement must seat correctly on the shaft with the key aligned. Confirm the anti-rotation pin or bracket engages the intended location without distorting the clutch housing. Route the wire clear of the pulley, belt and exhaust, and tighten the mounting bolt to the applicable service specification.

Do not use the mounting bolt to pull a mismatched or binding clutch onto the shaft. Read our PTO clutch installation guide before starting.
