This quick-reference guide covers John Deere Z445 EZtrak zero-turn mowers equipped with a 48-inch Edge, 54-inch Edge, or 54-inch High Capacity mower deck.
The Z445 used three different PTO clutch paths during production. The correct clutch is determined by the mower serial number—not by deck size, engine appearance, or the Z445 model name alone.
Deck parts also vary. The 48-inch Edge deck has a serial-number split for the mower belt, and the standard 54-inch Edge deck must be kept separate from the heavier 54-inch High Capacity deck.

Identify the Z445 Mower Deck Before Ordering
The Z445 can use more than one mower-deck configuration:
- 48-inch Edge deck
- 54-inch Edge deck
- 54-inch High Capacity deck
Do not identify the deck from cutting width alone. The standard 54-inch Edge deck and the 54-inch High Capacity deck use different belts, blades, spindle assemblies, and supporting components.
Look for a deck identification decal, compare the deck housing and belt-routing diagram, or use the deck shown in the mower’s exact serial-specific parts catalog.

The standard 54-inch Edge deck uses the M158131 mower deck belt and three standard M143520 / UC22010 blades.

John Deere Z445 Spindle and Idler Pulley Paths
Select 48-inch and standard 54-inch Edge deck configurations use the AM144377 spindle assembly. Earlier numbers associated with this spindle family may include AM135349 and AM124498.
Z445 mowers equipped with the 54-inch High Capacity deck use the separate AM144423 spindle assembly path.
Common Edge-deck pulley paths include:
- AM135526: mower deck drive sheave or idler assembly
- AM128118: mower deck drive pulley used in a separate belt-routing position
- AM143737: mower deck idler pulley replacing the earlier AM136693 path
Do not treat AM135526, AM128118, and AM143737 as interchangeable. They can occupy different positions and have different diameters, offsets, bearing sizes, and belt-contact surfaces.
Important Fitment Check
Use the mower serial number to identify the PTO clutch. The John Deere Z445 used separate AM141536, AM136787, and AM138730 clutch paths during production.
For deck parts, confirm all three of the following:
- The mower is a John Deere Z445
- The mower’s complete serial number
- The exact installed deck: 48-inch Edge, 54-inch Edge, or 54-inch High Capacity
Do not order PTO clutches, belts, blades, spindles, or idler pulleys by appearance or cutting width alone.

- Confirm the mower identification tag shows John Deere Z445

Common PTO Clutch and Deck Symptoms
- Blades will not engage when the PTO control is activated
- The PTO clutch clicks but the mower deck does not begin turning
- Blades engage when cold and stop after the clutch heats up
- The deck belt slips, squeals, smokes, or repeatedly comes off
- Grinding or bearing noise from a spindle or idler pulley
- Visible pulley wobble or uneven belt tracking
- Deck vibration caused by damaged blades or spindle bearings
- Uneven cutting or reduced blade speed under load
Inspect the clutch, deck belt, idler pulleys, spindle assemblies, and blades as a complete system. A seized pulley or dragging spindle can overload a replacement PTO clutch and quickly damage a new belt.
