If your Poulan Pro blades won’t engage, the clutch is clicking but nothing spins, or the deck slips under load, start here. Most Poulan Pro riding mowers and lawn tractors use one of two main electric PTO clutch families. Matching the correct path (especially the crankshaft bore) is the fastest way to get the right replacement the first time.
Already have the number from your old clutch? Choose the matching replacement below. Still comparing? This guide covers the two most common paths, popular models, and how to confirm fitment.

Model number alone is not enough. Some Poulan Pro machines were built with more than one clutch configuration depending on year, deck size, and engine. Always confirm the original clutch number or measure the crankshaft bore before ordering.
How to Confirm the Correct Clutch
- Locate the number stamped, engraved, or labeled on the original clutch housing or coil.
- Measure the crankshaft bore (1 inch or 1-1/8 inch).
- Measure the pulley diameter (most common paths are in the 6-inch class).
- Confirm rotation (almost all of these are CCW when viewed from the pulley side).
- Note the connector style and anti-rotation mounting.
If the number is worn off or you’re unsure, text a clear photo of the clutch label, mower model/serial tag, and the crankshaft area to 541-361-8778, or email support@ptodirectusa.com. You can also use our Parts Desk.

Common Symptoms That Point to a Bad Clutch
- Blades won’t engage when you turn the PTO on
- Clutch clicks but the blades don’t spin
- Blades slip or slow down under load
- Burning smell after 10–30 minutes of mowing
- Intermittent engagement that gets worse as the mower warms up
A worn electromagnetic coil often works when cold and then loses strength once it heats up. Replacing the clutch is usually the permanent fix.
Installation Notes
Once you have the correct clutch, proper installation matters. Follow our PTO Clutch Installation Guide for removal tips, torque guidance, wiring, and burnishing. If the old clutch is stuck on the crankshaft, do not pry against the body — check the stuck-clutch guidance in the same guide before forcing it.
